The RDS 81346 Standard Series

The RDS 81346 standard deals with industrial systems, installations, equipment, and industrial products and is an ISO and IEC standard, which means it is approved by the International Organization for Standardization and International Electrotechnical Commission.

The standard provides guidelines for the coding principles of how to structure systems and is the common formula of standardized letter codes for any technical object. By following the same principles and using the same letter codes, we can establish clear and unambiguous TAGs (labeling) to be understood across internal and external disciplines and provides organizations and people with a basis for mutual understanding.

The goal is to implement the ISO/IEC 81346 standard to consolidate and align different structural descriptions found throughout an organization and establish a reference designation system (RDS) that functions as an identification system for an organization’s technical objects.

Once a reference designation system is in place, and we follow standards, it allows us to establish, measure, and assure a level of quality and predictability and reduce confusion and misunderstandings between stakeholders by having a common technical language.
